Don’t judge a book by its cover: Unpacking our assumptions

We all make assumptions.

This is natural for humans, and when we are wrong in our assumptions, it prevents us from looking at the world accurately. When incorrect, what is true about our conclusions based on these assumptions? We are more likely to be wrong with our conclusions or worse create unwanted outcomes when we are functioning from inaccurate assumptions.

So, how do we track those assumptions?

Checking our assumptions can bring us closer to discovering what false truths we might have been making up. Bringing attention to, and taking responsibility for, these assumptions can bring us closer to other people’s truths, allowing us to understand one another better. We can then discover more in our shared experience and deepen our connections with others.

During this event, we’ll shine a light on our assumptions and the ways we create stories, beliefs, and actions based on the assumptions we make.

Using the ‘Ladder of Inference’ as a tool, we’ll learn how to unpack our assumptions in order to create generative outcomes and empowering connections.

Facilitated by Jerry O. and Katie G.
